St Johns Homecoming
Past Projects – St John’s Homecoming
St John’s Homecoming was performed in Dundee Rep Theatre on the 30th September and 1st October 2009.
Based on national Scottish and the local history of Lochee in Dundee, St John’s Homecoming, features songs by Robert Burns and poetry by Scotland’s Makar Edwin Morgan, and has led to the creation of a social history project performed by Scottish singer and song writer, Michael Marra and the pupils of St John’s High School.
St John’s Homecoming encompasses all things Scottish and has breathed new life into the school’s curriculum. This production contains extracts from the forthcoming ‘The King of Lochee’ musical which details the beginning of Lochee through to the rise of the jute industry in Dundee and the workforce that was massed to work in the largest jute mill in Europe up until the present day.
